Healthcare – Primary
M&A activity across the Primary Care space has slowed relative to 2019 — as COVID-19 has impacted deal flow across the sector. Simultaneously, COVID-19 has also put greater emphasis on the importance of primary care providers. Primary care spending in the US accounts for ~5% of the overall healthcare spend today, however, from 2019 to 2020 increases in primary care spending have outpaced other spend increases[1]. Relatedly, more states measure primary care spending as a key metric in healthcare system transformation1. Both Medicare and Medicaid expanded their focus on primary care by increasing payments to physicians of primary care and chronic disease management, which will go into effect at the beginning of 2021.1
